B&B for Free Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to go stay with someone I host? What if I just want to host people and make new friends?
No, you don't have to visit anyone you host. Some people have the gift of hospitality and will enjoy hosting without being hosted.
How can I be sure the people I'm hosting will not cause problems for me?
You can never be 100% sure about strangers. We encourage sending many emails back and forth to try to get to know the people you will visit or host.
What if someone is scheduled to come in the near future and we have an emergency which prevents us from hosting?
These things happen from time to time and you'll just have to be sure in your email exchanges that the other party knows of this possibility, if you can. Also, it is a wise idea to check and possibly invest in travel insurance. There are usually clauses in the insurance which allow for trip cancellation.
I don't get along with someone that came to stay with me. What can I do?
Try to discuss the situation and work something out in a friendly way.
If you can't work out a resolution, refer to the Terms and Conditions of joining the website. It states that visitors must leave on 2 hours notice if you ask them to leave.
Can I get a referral fee if I refer someone who then joins?
Yes. Send a friend or relative an invitation to join from our
email referral page and if they do join for US$100 you will receive
$20 off your next membership renewal of $100. There is no limit on
referrals and if you get 10 people to join for US$100 then you will
get $200 off which will amount to 2 free years of membership.
Referral fees will only be for the reduction of future membership
fees, not in a cash refund.
I don't want to delete my membership, but I do want to stop getting exchange requests. How do I do this?
Log in with your username and click on "My Account" and you can switch your "Status" from "Active" to "Inactive" then you will no
longer show up in the "Search" lists. When you are ready, simply log in and change back to "Active."
How do I arrange an exchange visit?
Search for listings on the search page in the area you are interested in traveling to. Find a listing that sounds interesting to you. Since only registered members can send inquiries, log in and send the member an inquiry about dates you are interested in. Your member ID with a link to the details of your listing will be sent with the inquiry email.
Do I have to answer inquiries if I'm not interested in hosting someone?
Yes, it is a common courtesy to at least respond to someone, thanking them for their inquiry, and that you are not able to host them at that time. If you do want to host them sometime, perhaps you could propose an alternate date or just that you'd be happy to consider hosting them sometime in the future.
Why don't you encourage allowing the use of someone's vehicle?
If you want to allow someone to use your vehicle, that is your decision. You have every right to do this and you should at least contact your insurance company and ask them about coverages for both your property and your visitor's property and medical coverages in case of accident, injury or death.
What if I am allergic to pets at my hosts home?
We have tried to prevent this problem arising by putting "We have cats or dogs" in the membership form.
These things will not always be up to date so if you are concerned about visiting someone that might have a pet,
please put that in your email exchanges as a concern before you travel.
My profile information changed. Can I edit it?
Yes. Log in and click on "My Account" and you will get a list of your profile pages which can then be updated.
Be sure to click "Save Changes" when you have made changes.
I can't upload my pictures. What should I do?
There is a size limit to pictures. If you go to one of these websites, you should be able to resize any picture to 350 pixels wide which should be small enough to upload and still have enough details for others to see. You should crop your pictures so that there isn't a lot of miscellaneous, unnecessary border around them.
